Phony Navy SEAL of the Week? The Omaha Beach Landing Dude.

Phony Navy SEAL of the Week? The Omaha Beach Landing Dude. Many THANKS FOR the support... http://www.6juin1944.com/assaut/omaha/en_page.php?page=oo144

Your Grandfather was indeed a WWII Frogman and I found much information on him including the attached picture, Erin.

I’ll translate the UDT/SEAL Database entry 'below' of your Grandfathers Service with Naval Special Warfare.

On March 1st, 1944 Billie left a Seabee base in Williamsburg Virginia (WIMVA) and traveled to Fort Pierce Florida for 'NAVY COMBAT DEMOLITION Training'. He was in NCDU and not UDT at that time. (I’ll explain NCDU-UDT later)

A little over a month later he traveled to Lido Beach New York for Fleet transfer to the Atlantic Theater with NCDU130 also known as Cheney’s Chaingang and he landed on Omaha Beach in Normandy France on D Day destroying obstacles that would hinder the invasion.

On October 10th, 1944 he returned to Lido Beach and traveled again to Fort Pierce for UDT Training. In March, 1945 he traveled to Davisville, Rhode Island and was transported to the Pacific Theater 5 months before WWII ended on August 15th, 1945 so he may certainly have landed in Okinawa.

3/1/44 WIMVA to Pierce; 4/13/44 to Lido-FFT; 6/6/44 to Omaha/ Normandy, Pres Unit Citation Ribbon , Croix de Guerre Ribbon; 7/44 to 7th BB; 10/10/44 Lido to Pierce; 3/317/45 to Davisville; to Pacific

NCDU’s were small groups of men and operated in Atlantic. UDT’s were much larger teams and operated in the Pacific. It seems your grandfather was in both units.
