I got to go inside the 'Hanoi Hilton' 3 yrs ago when I was in Vietnam. It was absolutely the most disturbing thing I've ever experienced. I've been to Auschwitz, Dakau, The Killing Fields in Cambodia and Rwanda's mass graves from the genocide. I think because Vietnam is still socialist and there is still this feeling that your 'freedom' could be taken at any moment. To see a propaganda memorial in the lake, STILL bragging of McCain's downed Skyhawk is unreal. And to see where and what these men endured, FOR YEARS left me speechless 🇺🇸🙏

I’m not former military as I have said before, had two uncles who served and saw combat in WW2 and were able to pass their stories on in my family. One was a POW in a German camp after being shot down as a bomber tail gunner, the other was in the second wave of D-Day, got separated from his unit and was found in the French countryside all by himself two weeks after the landing, out of ammo and shaking like a leaf as the story goes. My dad served in the Army, guard duty out at White Sands in 53-54, my twin cousins are Vietnam vets. All much older than I, I was a late addition to my family being born in 1973.

Anyway, all that aside, I have a huge amount of respect for the soldiers of my country. My dad talked me out of serving and paid for my college, then I went to medical school. So I have no frame of reference other than the past family members who I love dearly who made it possible for all that to happen, and I try to live my life the best I can and be a productive member of society with the gift of freedom bestowed upon me.

I hate seeing the numbers of the Iraqi and Afghan wars in terms of POW claims. Makes me sick. I hope and pray Hegseth gets the opportunity to do what he is wanting to do, I pray for our military often.
