I'm sure Don did some behind the scenes checks that he did not make public and has a few aces up his sleeve not shared, before putting his name up on the data base. My spidey-sense is not at ease with this one yet. I get the feeling since he did not make the swim training part of training that "they" viewed he did not meet the criteria to be considered official. Maybe it is not that cut/dry. I just feel a bit leery as his son is doing research and could have found some of this information out. I think he is legit with most of his resume, but the Navy may have viewed that since he missed the swim training he did not officially finish the program. Maybe Don can give us a quick video on this UDT vs SEAL evolution as I am guessing in today's SEAL or Spec Op's world you are not getting the Trident or other badge of recognition without completing all phases of training. Maybe things were more chaotic and forgiving back in those days and/or you simply could get some of the training "on the job" like the gentlemen stated regarding the swim potion of training that he got by others later on his duty assignment. I remember the video from a few years ago where Don was scratching his head over a gentleman professing to be a SEAL actually taking a photo with the President (I think) and he was not listed but eventually Don solved the mystery. The guy was in fact a SEAL in Vietnam and a pretty big badass but missed some of the formal BUDS training. I could be wrong with the exact facts but similar story so maybe this newest guy not listed is legit.

Blair decided to make Chu the DD for the trip back to 2026. He decided to stop by 1983 for a Stevie Nicks Concert. I was on active duty in 83. I'm in deep shit.
Another weekend is here. Mom was supposed to work, but she put in for some lieu time. Hef has the weekend off as well. We've forgiven him for trying to pawn us off on Simon for the weekend, as if we'd ever want to go to California. Instead, we took the DeLorean back to 1980 and arranged an appearance for Mom, Hef, and all of us to be on *The Tonight Show* with Johnny Carson. Mom and Hef were over the moon when we told them. Mom always loved watching Johnny Carson; she always said he was very dashing. Hef always wanted to party in the infamous Green Room, with free booze and cigars. When we talked to Johnny, he said he could make Mom's story work: a dedicated nurse raising three boys with the help of a good neighbor. Johnny said the story sells itself. So you guessed it, the DeLorean rides again. We arrived back in 1980 without a hitch. We got to the studio well before the show was to air. While waiting we passed the time in the Green room. This is where things started going sideways for us. We drank a few to many whiskeys and smoked one to many joints. By the time the show was to start we were well under the influence of the weed and alcohol. Mom and Hef's interview went well, they were on cloud nine. Then came the point where we wanted to present Johnny with a gift we brought for him. Two nice bottles of Scotch and two cartons of cigarettes. We each wanted to give him the gift and that's when all hell broke loose. We started a brawl live on stage. Mom and Johnny were just beside themselves, Hef thought it was hilarious. Mom was so upset with us for acting like that on the Tonight show. As soon as we got off the set, the tongue lashing began. You know, bla bla bla...wait till we get home. It was a very quiet trip back to our time. Now California ain't looking so bad...

I think your doing him a CPO solid . Zumwalt the Navy CNO did have a an "early out" program running at the time. Another key to his claim . Upon his discharge he was sent USNR (UDT-21) .As a general rate BM, QM, YN etc. transfer to USNR would have sent him to the local reserve center, in his case Minnesota and if he would have been drilling or been reactivated to any YN billet the fleet needed. To me this means he had the Naval enlisted code (NEC) for UDT at the Bureau of Naval personnel and had he been brought back to active duty (RE-1 reenlistment code ) that is where the Navy's plan was for him to serve.

I always like to see the level of respect Don has for the older SEAL/UDT guys. 55 years later he is an OLD MAN, how on earth would he know what they called BUDS back then? The fakes always say "BUDS, it was BUDS." And, how would he correctly have GUESSED "I think they gave enlisted silver and officers Gold...." when THAT has not been the case in how long? Clockwork perfection is for clocks, not for human endeavors, especially those the size of the US Navy. MOST of the time the right thing happens, but yeah, occasionally things get missed. I'd wager this is also because he wasn't in long. If he'd retired from UDT, by then this oversight would have been found and corrected. Its like a "perfect storm" of events that came together, and this guy wasn't listed where he should have been. I think its a great thing for this family that Don took the time to make this correction.

Hey Senior, I was scrolling through the old interweb scoffing at Dan Crenshaw and Shaun Ryan’s feud when I saw a little tab that said ‘Former Navy SEAL could use your help’ so me being a member here I got a jolt of excitement thinking I may have caught me a moby dick, my first fake SEAL, but then I clicked on it and I could not believe what I was reading. By the end of it I had tears in my eyes. It’s a website about a SEAL named Dusty Turner, evidently who’s swim buddy killed a girl in the 90’s and Dusty ended up getting convicted of it and sent to prison for life without parole. Then in 2002 the Dusty’s swim buddy and fellow SEAL roommate who killed the girl confessed and said he did it, and Dusty had nothing to do with it. But the prosecutor didn’t want the embarrassment and so refused to free Dusty. Now, it’s 2026 and Dusty is still in prison with the government acknowledging he’s innocent. His mom made this website recently because I think either her or his dad is terminal and they have been trying to get him free since the other SEAL confessed in 02 but now with technology and social media the way it is they are trying to spread the word and maybe put enough pressure to get him freed before his parent passes. It didn’t say what team these 2 guys were on but I figured you must know about it and if it’s bullshit or Dusty really is truly innocent and has had his entire life ruined over an asshole who let him take the fall.

Sometimes administration messes up. I initially got my aircrew wings in 1979 when I completed my PQS. Years later when I was re-assigned to the training command as an instructor. My division master chief told me that I hadn't earned my aircrew wings. My previous command had submitted my paperwork with two of the numbers in my social security number transposed.
Was easy enough to resolve but it was a pain in my ass.

Another weekend is here. Mom was supposed to work, but she put in for some lieu time. Hef has the weekend off as well. We've forgiven him for trying to pawn us off on Simon for the weekend, as if we'd ever want to go to California. Instead, we took the DeLorean back to 1980 and arranged an appearance for Mom, Hef, and all of us to be on *The Tonight Show* with Johnny Carson. Mom and Hef were over the moon when we told them. Mom always loved watching Johnny Carson; she always said he was very dashing. Hef always wanted to party in the infamous Green Room, with free booze and cigars. When we talked to Johnny, he said he could make Mom's story work: a dedicated nurse raising three boys with the help of a good neighbor. Johnny said the story sells itself. So you guessed it, the DeLorean rides again. We arrived back in 1980 without a hitch. We got to the studio well before the show was to air. While waiting we passed the time in the Green room. This is where things started going sideways for us. We drank a few to many whiskeys and smoked one to many joints. By the time the show was to start we were well under the influence of the weed and alcohol. Mom and Hef's interview went well, they were on cloud nine. Then came the point where we wanted to present Johnny with a gift we brought for him. Two nice bottles of Scotch and two cartons of cigarettes. We each wanted to give him the gift and that's when all hell broke loose. We started a brawl live on stage. Mom and Johnny were just beside themselves, Hef thought it was hilarious. Mom was so upset with us for acting like that on the Tonight show. As soon as we got off the set, the tongue lashing began. You know, bla bla bla...wait till we get home. It was a very quiet trip back to our time. Now California ain't looking so bad...

I think your doing him a CPO solid . Zumwalt the Navy CNO did have a an "early out" program running at the time. Another key to his claim . Upon his discharge he was sent USNR (UDT-21) .As a general rate BM, QM, YN etc. transfer to USNR would have sent him to the local reserve center, in his case Minnesota and if he would have been drilling or been reactivated to any YN billet the fleet needed. To me this means he had the Naval enlisted code (NEC) for UDT at the Bureau of Naval personnel and had he been brought back to active duty (RE-1 reenlistment code ) that is where the Navy's plan was for him to serve.
PS as a seaman recruit graduating a Navy school, getting a hand shake , going to work . Are you really going to trot down to admin and double check your own record. "The Captain just might be full of shit ,I want to see it in writing"

I always like to see the level of respect Don has for the older SEAL/UDT guys. 55 years later he is an OLD MAN, how on earth would he know what they called BUDS back then? The fakes always say "BUDS, it was BUDS." And, how would he correctly have GUESSED "I think they gave enlisted silver and officers Gold...." when THAT has not been the case in how long? Clockwork perfection is for clocks, not for human endeavors, especially those the size of the US Navy. MOST of the time the right thing happens, but yeah, occasionally things get missed. I'd wager this is also because he wasn't in long. If he'd retired from UDT, by then this oversight would have been found and corrected. Its like a "perfect storm" of events that came together, and this guy wasn't listed where he should have been. I think its a great thing for this family that Don took the time to make this correction.

I was scrolling through the old interweb scoffing at Dan Crenshaw and Shaun Ryan’s feud when I saw a little tab that said ‘Former Navy SEAL could use your help’ so me being a member here I got a jolt of excitement thinking I may have caught me a moby dick, my first fake SEAL, but then I clicked on it and I could not believe what I was reading. By the end of it I had tears in my eyes. It’s a website about a SEAL named Dusty Turner, evidently who’s swim buddy killed a girl in the 90’s and Dusty ended up getting convicted of it and sent to prison for life without parole. Then in 2002 the Dusty’s swim buddy and fellow SEAL roommate who killed the girl confessed and said he did it, and Dusty had nothing to do with it. But the prosecutor didn’t want the embarrassment and so refused to free Dusty. Now, it’s 2026 and Dusty is still in prison with the government acknowledging he’s innocent. His mom made this website recently because I think either her or his dad is terminal and they have been trying to get him free since the other SEAL confessed in 02 but now with technology and social media the way it is they are trying to spread the word and maybe put enough pressure to get him freed before his parent passes. It didn’t say what team these 2 guys were on but I figured you must know about it and if it’s bullshit or Dusty really is truly innocent and has had his entire life ruined over an asshole who let him take the fall.

Sometimes administration messes up. I initially got my aircrew wings in 1979 when I completed my PQS. Years later when I was re-assigned to the training command as an instructor. My division master chief told me that I hadn't earned my aircrew wings. My previous command had submitted my paperwork with two of the numbers in my social security number transposed.
Was easy enough to resolve but it was a pain in my ass.
