I'm not a fan of Jesse because he acts like he has kind of a big ego. However I respect him because he says he was a SEAL but tells people he never experienced combat instead of going the phony route and telling all these bullshit war stories.

Excellent video Don. Wherher a person likes Venturas politics or not has nothing to do with Jesse being a SEAL. A guy on FB told me to go F myself and told me I was so stupid for saying Jesse was in fact a Navy SEAL. The guy who argued with me about Ventura Friday and Saturday was ' politically motivated. As a wrestling fan growing up 70s and 80s the first time I ever heard Navy SEAL was from Jesse Ventura then the movie "Predator" was awesome sending Jesse over the top Im sure Jesse was nobody to mess with when he was younger a Legit 6ft4 260lbs Sgt. Blain Cooper.
Former Governor Jesse Ventura rode with the Mongols Motorcycle Club, joining their South Bay chapter near San Diego after his Navy service, wearing their colors, and serving as Sergeant-at-Arms before leaving in 1974, but he remained a member and testified in their defense years later, calling it a stepping stone for veterans.
Another weekend, not much to do after the holidays. Mom's not working, and Hef is having a card party at his place tonight. We've been waiting forever for the Leafs to win another Stanley Cup. So, with nothing for us to do this weekend, you guessed it, the DeLorean rides again. The year is 1967, May 2nd to May 5th. The place: Toronto, Canada, to watch the Leafs win the Cup. We got there, and the atmosphere was off the charts. The bars were endless; the beer and food were dirt cheap. The people of Toronto couldn't do enough for us. We did our usual wheeling and dealing with the Leafs' front office. They looked right after us. We got to watch the game, be there for the team picture, ride in the parade with the Stanley Cup, and we were each presented with our own Stanley Cup ring. It was a four-day drunk that we'll never forget. The Canadian people and their hospitality are second to none. Mom would appreciate how they treated her three boys. The DeLorean got us back home in time to pinch some money out of Mom's purse so we could go to Hef's place for the card party. It's always nice to take Hef and Bob to the cleaners. As always, the only real threat at the table is Chuck...
Great video, Senior. I mostly remember Jesse as a pro wrestler. You're right, no matter what you think of him, he's the real deal...

I think the way it worked in the 70s, all enlistments were 6 year enlistments. If you did 4 years or more you were not an "obligor" and you were in the inactive reserves and could be called back on that enlistment.
Jesse probably wanted to drill for a little extra money, it looks like the only place in Minnesota was the old NAS Minneapolis that became a reserve center. Jesse probably went there and signed up. He also talked about using UDT/SEAL job category to get the max unemployment benefit at the time he got out (they couldn't reasonably find a job for him at the unemployment job center).
I went to the reserves where I was but I didn't have to.
Little known facts, if you lived (or said you lived) more than 50 miles away you didn't have to drill, you were category H (non drilling reserve) and if you didn't want to be there they don't want you there. The recruiters get a list of those guys (obligors) but if you just ignore it when they call nothing happens and if you bitch about it when the recruiter calls they don't want you and just let it go.

Separation leave. I took about 1/2 my leave when I was in and had about 2 months of separation leave. Also, if you were going to get the Good Conduct Medal (used to be 4 years but I think they changed it to 3) you weren't there on day+1 for the clerical guys to notice and the DD-214 is written right before separation leave starts.
