A couple good lessons I learned years ago while training to do triathalons and rock climbing, was reading everything i could find to keep myself focused on the goals and on track, i came across an article in a mag about Seal training and the lesson i will never forget was "You've got to love it when it sucks". Other lessons learned were to be a "Giver" not a "Taker" with your teammates. Always look for ways to help your teammate through tough situations. Let the others go for name recognition. By being a giver and selfless with your team automatically gains you the true trust and respect that keeps others wanting you around. Also you're setting the trend and theme of your team. And when in doubt.. "Just do something" To contribute.. Be humble, give the credit to others. You will be Golden.. Just some thoughts.. Good luck - Have Heart.

Great advice. My older brother, Thomas, my younger brother, James and I, all served in the 11th Special Forces group. My older brother John was also in the Army - Arty. I trained with the 3M maxim: Move it, Mix it, Max it.

One small suggestion: you speak of "special forces' (lower case - generic instance) and I get it, but there is, in fact, "Special Forces" uppercase and that may cause some confusion. Perhaps "special operations troops" might be a better term.
Again, everything you do is outstanding!

Press on.....glad to have the opportunity to support the effort!

What a motivator, so articulate , hitting on those pros and cons. Very sincere in everything he says. Doesn't put down the guys who don't make it. I like Senior, one can really see a good hearted guy that his wife speaks of.

Absolute worst day of my life as current news is stating our absolute nauseating gov't liberal leaders are letting woman into buds. This will no doubt push my son who is working on his buds contract after two hard years of p. T. Who could absolutely whop any dike who just wants to prove she can zip up the same pants the elite buds candidates zip up to just flat ass fail. To you big mouth whiny woman who can't be happy thanks the hell alot for fucking up every red blooded young man that can actually protect and serve in a navy seal service. The hell with you dikes.

Mr. Shipley,
I just saw in the news an that the SEAL training will be open to female candidates. Common sense would tell anybody that this is wrong. But knowing that the common sense is long gone from our society, especially under the last administration, please tell us what is your opinion about it. I can't think of a better person to know this tuff and express his opinion better than you. You are retired and I believe you don't give a rat's ass about being politically correct.
Respectfully,
A viewer.
