Had a conversation today with a good friend about the Colt single action Army pistol. ( Like the one Baldwin used) We laughed about the time he wanted to practice quick draw with his. I advised using primed shells only for the noise, no powder no bullet, because the gun can be dangerous to the shooter. After a few shots he increased his speed and promptly fired the gun at his leg. He was glad the only ill effect was the blackened mark on his pants from the primer powder. The quick draw using that pistol require you to cock the hammer and pull the trigger very close together. Your thumb actually cocks the pistol on it's way out of the holster. I was glad he listened to me before trying his Matt Dillon draw without live rounds first. We both laughed about the TV guys that seem to do it with no problem. And the guys that speed shoot that weapon often have a metal deflector built into the holster for this reason.He agrees with me......Baldwin pulled the trigger first He eventually sold the pistol at a loss because it was possibly more dangerous than other styles of pistol and the possibility of ruining a good pair of pants.
