I never knew anything about bombs or explosive until I went to college. I learned the chemical composition of these explosives. In C4 you have a a chemical called RDX which is what makes the boom. The chemical reaction starts when you use an energy source i.e. the blasting cap. Then the chemical bonds are broken between the chemicals. The reaction is very fast. It is 8750 meters/second. All the chemicals bonds are being broke down to form new chemicals. The amount of energy going on is what gives the violent explosives. Great Video

I have posted earlier about a dipshit I policed with who who was a real Mitty. This same guy was a wannabe EOD guy. He was on a SWAT team with me. One year, we conducted a joint exercise with local Marine reserves wherein we were acting as OPFOR. Well, this dumbass showed up with "bird bombs" which were home made from 12 gauge shotgun shells. Now, I knew this guy was a certified dipshit, a real Mitty. He had already accidentally fired a 12 gauge inside his truck in a shopping center. He started trying to sell me on the IEDs he made and I told him to get the fuck away from me with that shit. But, he did manage to convince a buddy of mine to use them. Long story short, my buddy blew his hand off. The explosion happened right behind me, at night, in the woods. I had my field dressing kit and we sorted him out but we were an hour form the hospital in the back of an M880. Bad night. A hand surgeon saved his hand but he wasn't the same, all because of a dumbass wannabe EOD guy...Leave the improvised shit to guys like Don. I am well versed in the issued stuff and I am a mechanic so I understand the IEDs well but without a guy like Don to teach me, I ain't touching it unless Russian T-72s are rolling down I-85.
