This morning on the Appalachian Trail, it started around a chilly 40-degree. It's time to break camp and head to a new state. The trail is getting crowded these days. The colorless landscape, filled with shades of gray and brown, created a serene atmosphere. Despite the traffic jam, there was a sense of camaraderie; an army of motorbikes screamed toward Deals Gap, known as the Dragon Tail, a very crazy lot, Redman's crew, no doubt.

Still debating where to build my cabin. Didn't do any trail clearing or any of that today but did get some black-eyed Susans and Lillys planted out there. Where I've been working recently:

What a jewel that guys is. Just where would he have gotten all this elite training in all these different disciplines as it would take years to master any one of them to the level necessary to train a SEAL.
Actually Don, Tony Zimos, WC28 graduated in late summer of 1962 as the class began in April of that year. I was in the same class. He and I both went to UDT 11 and later SEAL Team 1 and served together for our entire time until we were discharged. He was well out of the teams by the time this clown stated he had trained him. Tony had his leg amputated near the end of his life stemming from an infection he developed from  knee surgery. Even with that the infection had spread to other parts of his body resulting in his ultimate demise. I saw the head stone in one of your photos. He's not there as his wife brought his ashes to one of our UDT/SEAL reunions on Coronado to be buried at sea.

I guess using this guys logic, I recently joined a Latin Dance Academy to learn a style Cuban Salsa.  So on my next visit I will tell my instructor he can now place a banner in his window that he teaches Navy SEALS to salsa.

I used to train SEALs in snorkeling. With all the extensive training a Navy SEAL gets you'd be amazed at how many couldnt snorkel. The enemy would think you were just a tourist and you could keep your knife on the back of your head with the mask elastic just in case you ran into an enemy snorkeler. ;-)

Went to the Navy Recruiter, he said we can get waivers for a lot "colorful youth/pretty sure I had a warrant to for unpaid tickets for speeding and dumb shit" stuff but that knee has all ready had 2 surgeries and all the parts missing and the surgeries from your gun shot alone would make it hard. Took the paper home showed my new wife and was about 2 seconds away from making it a newly divorced wife. I didn't tell her that I was going to do it, and just had sprung a "hi honey, what do you think of our new house" that i didn't ask her input on, 25 years later she still puts up with my ass... but my point is be proud of what you have done in life. If you can't be proud of what you do in life don't make the shit up. One day that stupid bullshit will catch up to you. I have tried to explain this to my kids, which all three are adopted siblings that were our foster kids for almost 5 years before we were allowed to adopt. Be proud of what you do, if you aren't going to be proud of it, don't fucking do it... number one rule in our home, 1. Respect each other.. if you respect someone, you will never lie to them, if you never lie to them you will never steal from them, if you never steal from and never lie to them... and always do what mom and dad say period .. respect mom and dad.. Way back along time ago in the early 80s, there was a knife maker out of Cheney, Kansas who was a martial arts instructor who went bye the name "Master Don". He had a knife material that he had patented that was super tough. He would go to gun shows and bring his knives and an anvil and set up in a booth. You could always know he was there bye the banging sound of him cutting chunks out of the anvil. It was then when the Buck Master knife was first coming out like the one Don had in his video. The folks who didn't know much about knives bought a bunch of them because of the cool factor. They would wear their knives around the gun shows and Master Don would call them over and ask to examine their Buck Master knives. They would tell him how strong of a knife it was and Master Don would challenge them with this challenge. He would offer the owner one of his custom made knives if they could cut the edge of one of Mater Dons knives off with the Buck Master. Once in awhile someone would take him up on the challenge. The challenge was who ever could cut the edge off of the others knife, would get the losers knife. Master Don had a few Buck Master knives in his collection that he had cut the edge off of. He never had to give up one of his hand made custom knives due to that challenge. I bought a Bowie and a Skinner from Master Don.
