In 1941, a 19-year-old Betty White put her acting dreams on hold to join the American Women's Voluntary Services (AWVS). She spent her days driving a PX truck, delivering essential supplies like soap and candy to military gun emplacements in California, and spent her evenings attending dances to boost troop morale.

Following her death on December 31, 2021, her estate donated her well-preserved AWVS uniform and shoulder bag to the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History.

It was a literal treasure trove of 1940s home-front life. Curators found practical items like blank V-mail letters, gasoline ration stamps, red food ration tokens, and unused War Savings booklets.

The bag also contained deeply personal artifacts, including a square makeup compact embossed with the AWVS logo, green dice, and 29 different military insignia (including badges from the Free French and the Soviet Red Army). White had collected these pins from various servicemen she met during the war and even kept a handwritten list of their names.

Ive been looking through these videos for days. The last time i seen it i think it was on YouTube.

Evening all. Well I made it to 59 today. We lost my dad, LTC Hawkinson, at the same age. It’s a very weird feeling. I slept in and MrsNH decorated the whole house. Then we went for coffee where we sat on the patio. I don’t mind saying that when she left to go to the truck because the sun was bright and came back wearing wayfarer sunglasses, she looked even better. Lucky me. Dinner at a nice Italian place was the best. And then we watched a movie. My best friend!

A man has been arrested after breaching a firearms prohibition order in July.

Earlier this month, detectives from Crime Gangs Task Force commenced an investigation into an alleged breach of a firearms prohibition order by a member of the Comanchero outlaw motorcycle gang.

It will be alleged that a 48-year-old Port Willunga man attended a festival at Willunga on Sunday 26 July and participated in a duck shooting carnival sideshow, in breach of the conditions of his firearms prohibition order.

On Friday 21 August, police arrested the man in Adelaide. He was charged with breaching the conditions of a firearms prohibition order and being unlawfully present at a shooting gallery.

The man refused police bail and will appear at the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday 24 August.

My mom went camping up in Aroostook in Maine and bought me potatoes from a local farm up there. My Russian heart is happy.

I just received some awesome news! My old high school best friend told me she's moving back to my town next month to a group home on the next street over from my assisted living so now we actually get to see eachother now! She moved an hour away so we could only see eachother a few times a month. Then Covid happened and she was scared about getting sick so she said no visitors until everything calmed down. Then I got really sick for four years because my brain isn't normal and all we could do was keep video chatting. Now that I'm doing better I told her I would come up when my husband is off and we'll help her move. She has muscular dystrophy but we were in some of the same classes throughout high school because we needed help in the same areas. We gave those poor teachers a hard time. I was hyperactive and we fed off eachother so badly. My dad had to set me straight a few times and her parents set her straight too but now they just laugh at it. I texted my dad the news and he said to behave ourselves because he won't bail me out of jail if we were being dumbasses again. 😂😂😂 I haven't seen her face to face in years so I'm very excited.

Don, if you haven't already, at 65 you need to sign up for Medicare asap or you will receive a lifetime penalty/reduction.
