Had a great dove hunt on opening day down here in Tennessee!

I served from 2010-2018 and hell in my infantry company if you were caught with drugs they did the pay cut thing and extra duty. They wouldn't give you the boot unless you kept offending. I can remember a guy going from E6 to E1 and staying in still after 3 failed drug tests lol.

I just joined up tonight after having watched you on and off on YouTube since 2015. I'm a regular ol army infantryman that served 4 active and 4 reserve. I appreciate what you do and I am so stoked to go down the rabbit hole of phony seal videos on here. Great work, Senior.

At 9:05 p.m., c.s.t., on October 12, 1979, northbound Amtrak passenger train No. 392 was traveling at 58.5 mph on track No. 4. at Harvey, Illinois. Illinois Central Gulf Freight Train No. 51 was waiting on track No. 3 to crossover to track No. 4 after train No. 392 went north. The switchtender on duty at Harvey aligned the crossover switch on track No. 4 seconds before train No. 392 arrived. Train No. 302 entered the crossover and struck train No. 51. The engineer and head brakeman on board train No. 51 were killed, and all 6 crewmembers and 38 passengers on board train No. 392 were injured.
The National Transportation Safety Board determines that the probable cause of the accident was the switchtender's manual misalignment of a switch, immediately in advance of a train, which caused train No. 392 to be directed into a crossover and collide with a standing freight train on the adjacent track. The msialignment was made possible by the lack of an interlock or other positive means to prevent its movement. Contributing to the accident was the lack of training and limited experience of the employee assigned as switchtender. Also contributing to the accident was an inadequate communications system for giving directions to the switchtender




The conductor on board train No. 392 heard the following radio transmission repeated twice over channel 1 of his radio: "Don't line that switch you are going to line him in on top of us." Realizing that a switch may have been aligned improperly and that train No. 51 was to be cross over to track No. 4 after they had passed, he reached for his radio to instruct the engineer to stop. Before he could speak, with train brakes applied in emergency and the horn screaming, train No. 392, entered the crossover from track No. 4 at 58 mph. Before the train's speed could be reduced, the train struck train No. 51 at 9:05 p.m., c.s.t.
On impact, the locomotive of train No. 392 pushed the lead locomotive unit of train No. 51 34 ft under the second locomotive unit, struck and overrode the front end of the second locomotive unit, and struck and tore down the overhead catenary wires. The Amtrak locomotive and first coach of train No. 392 were overturned onto their sides. The locomotive traveled 134 feet before coming to rest on its left side adjacent to and west of the second locomotive unit of train No. 51. (See figure 1.)

Speaking of Jiu-Jitsu, this weekend I was at a great convention for my kid's karate association, Shorin -ryu kensenkai, headed by Colonel Jason Perry in the Marine Corps who took over after his dad Doug Perry retired from the position. My son got his black belt and became too cool for school for it, unfortunately. I still hit the events, especially when Sensei Perry and his dad (a decorated Vietnam marines vet) are teaching. 

I know so many of these moron phonies rock the martial arts thing too, and it's a real shame because it casts a cloud of shit over some legit eastern marital arts (our association was involved in forming the marine corps' martial arts school in Quantico). Apparently a lot of the legit guys know all about these phony types and do what they can to expose the idiots... there's actually a facebook page called Dumbass Karate where they highlight a moron of the week, and yeah, usually a lot of stolen valor is involved too.
What kills me is my son had the hookup with a great dojo, a great association, six years of respect among his peers and sensei with three to four classes a week, plus the head honcho senseis are all badass marines, one a Vietnam era major and his son a full bird colonel. I would have nutted over that when I was his age. But he just don't care... it's all about sports and chasing skirt now. Lol, I get that too.

I had an older brother in the Corps when i signed up. The only thing he told me was i didnt have to take any shit from anyone serving up chow in bootcamp because they were boots too. I did assume everyone would be a grunt, not so. They put you where they needed you or where you tested well for.

Back when I joined, June of '87, they had the Sea-College Program. It was 2 years active so you could contribute 100% of the G. I. Bill then you did 6 years in the Reserves; you had to score high enough on the A.S.V.A.B to join the Air Force to qualify

They asked him twice if he voluntarily wanted to go in and he didn't (claiming he was not suicidal). 

That sounds like good police work, he did not state he was a danger to himself, he did not at that time appear to be a danger to anybody else.
The police are not supposed to jump to conclusions and take him against his will under those circumstances.

Interesting, I joined for 3 years active duty and the recruiter made it sound like the 3 years in the reserve was mandatory and you were called an "obligor". 

When I got to my command after boot camp I was told "no that's bullshit" I was told not to think I was a reserve or sign "USNR" (which means reserve not retired) I was regular Navy on Active Duty and if I had to fill out a form like that on rare occasions I was to use USN.  

It turns out that reserve duty was not mandatory, they don't tell you that on separation and they won't come looking for you ... but you were indeed in a non drilling reserve and could have been called up if they wanted to (which is the same for a guy who enlisted 4 years but the total enlistment contract was 6 years). The recruiter told me ALL enlistments were 6 year enlistments. 

In my case I wanted to join the reserves anyway and would have done so if I enlisted for 4 years.  

It's almost impossible he got IC A-Shool, he probably thought IC was a cool rating and wanted to strike for the rating.
You can't just strike for anything you want, you can tell them that and the Chief for the ICs can say "sure kid we need another body and we'll take you under our wing" or they can say "Nope! not you!". 

In my case I went in as an E3, there was a technical rating I was eligible to strike for, I got a waver to take the test early and I made E-4 about a year after I got out of boot camp.  

At times guys like the Marines did that, they sent you through boot camp, then to a school or 2, then you were a drilling reserve. I am pretty sure the Navy didn't do that in the 70s.
