Now, see, I didn't serve in the military at all for gawds sake, so I don't know them stuffs, but I listened to this dude and Don seems to be able to talk to him and so I gots to know....IS THERE SOME KIND OF GOTDAM LANGUAGE THAT YALL SPEAK THAT I AINT PRIVVY TO!?!?!?! SHIT!!!!!! That guy either has a speech impediment, grey matter impediment, or just part of his tongue removed in an unfortunate barber pole accident or some shit. That first few minutes of him ramblin ass around and talking in non-sequiturs with non-sequitur answers was making my fucking brain hurt.

I served at NORAD HQ in Colorado Springs, 1977-1980. I proudly claim as an Senior Airman (fixing computer systems) that I defended the North American continent against nuclear annihilation; which is technically correct. In fact I was just a 30554 (AFSC in the old days) which meant I performed maintenance on important computer systems. But my favorite story of military service is that is sat in the oldest barber on Peterson AFS's barber shop deliberately because I new he was a WWII vet. He also had the shortest lines for hair cuts. Barbers rule!! I fixed computers, he was a waist gunner on B-17's over Germany.

Ship Servicemen are the lowest skill sailors in the Navy. They do the Captain's laundry and they're barbers. Basically you need to have the IQ about room temperature to do it.

Right... SH2? Cut hair, wash laundry.  Maybe Landing Party? Boarding Party? Security Detail?

When medals are worn, the Senior ribbon goes toward the heart on the right side.

His ribbon display on the flyer shows only one Good Conduct Medal (no devices). That, and the red chevrons instead of gold with that pile of fruit salad (almost surely accumulated over more than 12 years at the time that photo was taken) are the main things that struck me funny. I have a feeling that as you often say, Senior Chief: regardless of years in service, he likely had a bad run and he's trying to compensate for it. Mighty sad, because barber or not, he adapted and overcame and appeared to have had a fantastic Navy career; just not tip of the spear.

I was the guy he approached at the Veterans breakfast event. I would've NEVER thought he would've told Don that story. Especially, within 18hrs of being told Don already verified him. Crazy! Everything Don has said for years, was wrapped up into this video with one little extra surprise..
1. He was polished in his story.
2. Clearly, he was embarrassed or feeling low about his actual job and made this up, which he shouldn't have.
3. Being an older gentleman, he knows people would just believe him.
4. The surprise, and ive been watching Don since at least 2018, this guy didn't have his picture posted wearing a Trident or claiming Valor medals. He knew to only say just enough and tell the story at the right time.
Don, keep up the fight!

I'm in tears right now. This morning I got a text from my volunteer coordinator that one of my patients was actively passing and he wanted me to be there. My husband took me there as fast as he could and when I got into the room he smiled at me and told me he would tell god to save a spot for me in heaven and gave me these Marigold seeds to remember him by. He passed surrounded by people he loved and was happy. He was a Marine who served two tours in Vietnam. Doing hospice visits isn't for the weak.

Mom arranged for us to go and visit Senior and Diane for a week. What a time, filled with fun and activities. Shooting assault weapons, driving the tractor, and going out in the boat. However, it wasn't all fun and games. Everyone knows Senior granted me full access to the SEAL database, mom believes he's grooming me to take over some day. Senior gave me an assignment, to out a really bad phony, he needed to see if I could fly solo on this one. The other two heathens were tasked with helping Diane to do one of her cooking videos, she needed to see if they were camera ready and site friendly. We of course rose to all challenges and overcame all obstacles. Mom was so proud of us, she was telling all her co workers at the hospital...

F'ing ships service man
Retired as an SH2 after 26 years.
I'm calling bullshit. No wonder he has to claim to be a SEAL.

In the US Navy, the role now known as "Retail Services Specialist" (RS) was previously called "Ship's Serviceman" (SH). These Sailors manage and operate all shipboard retail and service activities, playing a crucial role in maintaining morale aboard the ship. This includes managing the ship store, vending machines, barbershops, laundry, and even coffee kiosks on some carriers.

It's very hard to make out but David is on the bottom left on board the USS Gallery FFG 26 in 1991 and was a Desert Storm vet. David is, sadly, 75 years old now and plenty old to have served in Vietnam. I've attached a Facebook page for a PA Representative who met David. While the grand marshal poster only showed the USS Doyle and Adams, it's very clear they ran out of room to list all his commands.
The image of him and the model trains has his walls adorned with plaques, certificates, and his 'shadow box' with a life of Naval Service mementos. His awards are 'been there done that' awards and are the same awards in his shadow box he was given at his retirement and they look very correct to me. And his pic in uniform was a much younger him around his retirement and nothing has changed.
Finally... Just off David's left ear is a pic of him in the camouflage uniforms of the Desert Storm era with body armor, a helmet and a weapon that sounds like the story he's telling of being a sort of security force.
Outside of the SEAL BS, I think David was a total Navy lifer (like me) and a good sailor.
https://www.facebook.com/RepDelozier/posts/i-recently-met-with-david-gipe-a-us-navy-veteran-and-new-cumberland-resident-dav/878178807464334/
As a post note there is some confusion on only being a Second Class Petty Officer with 26 years in. During his and most of my time in there was no such thing as the current "High Year Tenure" which requires different ranks to leave the Navy at a certain year mark. First Class and below are out at 20-years. E-7 Chiefs are out at 23 years, E-8 Senior Chiefs are out at 26 years and most Master Chief are out at 30 years.

I knew plenty of guys in the fleet who never aspired to promote past E-4 Third Class Petty Officers and would retire. They just plain liked not having responsibility, and it's always been said that the best rank to be is a E-5 Second Class.  You get treated better that E-4's and below, and you don't have the responsibility of being a First Class.

Either that or his ass got busted down at Captains Mast...

The way I remember it "Ships Services" and the rating Ships Serviceman were barbers and also handled things like vending machines and probably the ship's store on a ship (I did one enlistment and was never on a ship).

Special Services is entertainment, it's a more antiquated term often associated with USO shows and people in the entertainment field who joined the military in WWII but we still had movies about the same time the theaters did and we had a library and there were other things like trying to organize volleyball teams.

I was at a small remote detachment of a large Naval Airbase, our ship's serviceman didn't want to be a ship's serviceman, he was an E4 (he probably made E4 3 or 4 times) and he was in his mid 30s. He thought it was cool to be like a construction guy so they let him do odd jobs with the Sea Bees.

Another guy wanted to be the barber and an Aviation guy who thought it was a cool job did Special Services.

He says he was in for 26 years with 20 years on active duty with some broken service and retired as a Second Class Petty Officer? I'm going to have to throw the BS flag on this guy. Not only that his ribbon rack is jacked up as the order of precedence on multiple ribbons is wrong.  If anyone deserves to have his record pulled to see what it really shows it's definitely this clown. And whoever made the decision to make him the grand marshall of their parade without doing any checking should be fired from the decision making process.  Definitely poor decision making picking this guy.
