I love meeting and talking with the Vietnam guys (they had it so rough on both ends) but listening to this guy's suck just freaking sucks. Most of the guys I have talked to are very soft spoken about it... unlike this clown.

That is very sad. Guy had a great career, retired as a Chief and can’t be proud of just that.
I worked with a retired SEAL who just the opposite of this fellow. He went on to a career  in law enforcement. Never bragged and barely talked about his service even when asked. His son went on to being an operator for whom he was very proud. Left our agency and went back into business as a contractor and died when deployed overseas. Just a great guy. Quiet confidence would be the best way to describe him.

As someone who regretfully never served, I cannot understand why these guys can’t just be proud of what they did do even if they washed out of some programs. They aren’t for everyone. He talked about Cam Rahn Bay a lot. I came in country before the Tet Offense of 68. Cam Rahn Bay about 3 AM in the morning. We were standing in line waiting for breakfast chow when the sun came up and we all looked around in disbelieve. Cam Rahn Bay looked more like Hawaii than Vietnam. White sandy beaches with coral blue South China Sea. Guys surfing, scuba diving, and just lying on the beach. We all kind of wondered where the war was. We found it some weeks later.

Morning everone . Have been dealing with reactions to emotional adjustments for little while now . Recieved two T4 statements from the same company . Try and do your taxes with that . Got through that mess . Thursday was laid off . Total of 48 electricians . We finished up substation 2 . Nova just hasen't released the next stage of packages . Picked up my tools and hard hat at the Local 530 office in Sarnia . Notified my local 424 Calgary of my layoff . I started an Empolyment Insurance claim when I was layed off from Local 2038 Winnepeg so Friday turned my record of employment and she reactivated my claim . Could get a cheque in 2 weeks . All in all feeling blessed . Local 530 has my phone number . I could get a call as early as today , several shutdowns starting . Going to pack this bleeding heart with some non stick gause and call it a day . Have a nice day .

I just joined yesterday so I could watch these videos, have been watching them on youtube for a very long time.
In the mid 90's, I lived at Prince's Lakes. This is a multi lake community just off the west boundary of Camp Atterbury in Indiana.
There is a small town called Nineveh, that had a local bar I frequented.

There was an older gentleman I saw there on a regular basis. One day, I was sitting at the bar when he and another gentleman walked in and sat at the bar. I noticed he was wearing a Seal Team 2 hat.

I waited for a lull in their conversation and asked him, "Excuse me, I noticed your hat, seems like I remember reading that Seal team 1 and 2 trained and were formed at the same time, but technically, Seal team 2 was the first Seal team because of the time difference of them being on the east coast and Team 1 being on the west coast."

He asked me where I read that, and I told him I had read so may books written by guys who served in Viet Nam, and it had to been in one of them. He told me he had a couple of books written, but he didn't have any with him or he would give me one.

He said, "Let me give you my card and you can look them up if you want."
I looked at the card and it was James "Patches" Watson himself !!!

I said holy shit, you don't need to give me a copy, I already own both of your books and have read them at least twice. I said, I have to ask, what are you doing in Nineveh Indiana?

He told me he lived in Columbus, and some seals were doing some training at Camp Atterbury. He said when they were there, he comes up and meets with them and invites them to his house for a cook out.

I thanked him for documenting his stories. I even had the pleasure of buying him and his buddy a couple of beers and shaking his hand.

I didn't set out to write a freaking essay here. But, to this day he is the most famous/notorious man I have ever met in my life.

Don needs to get Steve Robinson on the phone and dismantle him.

First post, joined up for a year the other day, been watching all the videos and catching up on about 7 years of awesome content on here. With the comments being closed on the vids, was unable to say anything until now. This site is incredible, some of the best stuff on the internet IMO.

Im not personally military, my dad was in the Army in 55-57, assigned to guard duty out at White Sands. He passed away in 2018. Two uncles fought in WW2, one was a German POW after being shot down over Europe being a tail gunner on a B-17, the other was in the 2nd wave into Normandy. Both survived and lived into old age. Had a couple cousins in Vietnam, and some more distant family in the military more recently, although I don’t keep up with them now to be sure.

I attended medical school and practiced as an anesthesiologist for a few years, then went into pain management where I am now. Love my country, but I hate watching it go to crap as it is now. So I try and donate to things that I feel are worthy and close to my heart, like programs for veterans and the like. Thus, the reason I paid to join this site, which comes with a fantastic incentive in hearing Don’s stories and seeing him spank these idiots who attempt to tarnish the military veterans with their nonsense.

Lastly, and I’m sorry for such a long post, I have wanted to post for awhile on here lol, these old guys bother me the most...with all that is going on, the old WW2, Korea and Vietnam vets have always held a special place in my heart and I think we all tend to equate age with wisdom and integrity when it comes to elderly vets. There’s always been something quite uplifting in seeing and hearing old WW2 veterans still alive and speaking, kind of a warm light in the gathering storm and darkness that has swelled across this country in recent years. When faced with an elderly veteran who has decided to embellish or outright lie completely about their service, it just adds to the pile of emotional rubble and sewage that has been growing in my mind, replacing my evaporating faith and hope that we might stop this slide into complete moral degradation.

Anyway, I thank all of you that are veterans for your service. Again, I apologize for the long ass post, been on this site for almost a week and watching and reading, I developed into a bit of a Mount Vesuvius that needed to spew a few things lol.

Sad that he did all that, especially to all those people. A Navy Achievement Medal with combat "V" is nothing to sneeze at. They don't hand those out like candy. Though common, a NAM can be tough enough to earn, but a "V" on that thing is a whole different story. I remember a young Marine Corporal receiving one after the Kuwait Liberation Gulf War for his actions as part of a tank crew in 1st Marine Division. I was at the ceremony. The ole boy blowed up some enemy tanks and saved a lot of skin during one of the deadliest fights in that short conflict. This other guy here, had to have done something above and beyond for his "V" even if he was shipboard, unless maybe it was a blanket award for all serving aboard the vessel? Would they have done that? Even so, a NAM with a "V" is a true cut above. It stinks that he added all that other stuff including the WWII era and Korean War medals. Sad, sad, sad...

I am finishing up my Sled hockey season , at the Northeast Sled Hockey Tournament next weekend , we are current champions , but have some pretty tough teams this year. I have been fighting for NY veterans on bills that should have been done years ago…Helped a 9 yr old get the treatment she deserved , as her cancer is rare and there is only one Proton machine in NY State. Hooked them up with the best doctor and the Ronald McDonald house as this poor you girl will have to endure 5 days a week treatment for months…The albany medical center wrote her off because this cancer is so rare…well not on my watch …she will start next week and hopefully be cured. Met with Secretary of VA to find out why disabled veterans weren’t being given adaptive sporting equipment as adaptive sporting is a key to lowering the 22 a day . The training of real Service dogs , and some sort of regulations be put on the whole system. The paying good salaries to draw talented medical doctors and workers that will stay an up the care of our veterans. Getting 100% property land exemption for 100% disabled veterans in NY. …so after mid April I need to do a me trip.

After thinking about it. How in the hell did this guy avoid being stomped on by the members of the VFW. He can't be a regular member and tell stories like his at any vets club I've ever been in. He'd be lucky to get out with all his body parts.
