Best of luck to the Sergeant Major Paul Gaumond when he hikes the Appalachian trail next March. Hopefully he'll keep a trail blog that people can follow. My 53 year old cousin embarked on a thru-hike March 1st of this year starting at Springer Mountain Georgia and he is already quickly approaching Harper's Ferry West Virginia. Check out "Will-Da-Beast" on his AT blog - really good stuff and I'm blown away by his determination and ability to have suffered thru some brutal weather back in March thru the Smokies. Also known as "face with a beard"!! Haha. Also check out "Red Beard" also known as "Will Wood" for the BEST youtube documentary of a full thru-hike 2 years ago. Great stuff and there is a youtube of his for each state...beautiful scenery. Here are my cousin's links in case you have any interest at all....
