I get that things happen with lightning speed on the internet these days but think about this ... 

Romance & lonely heats club scams have been going on forever, usually in person, renting meeting rooms, churches opening up their meeting rooms to serve the public and these types of events.  

If somebody was in a rural area, very small towns, or just naturally self-isolating there weren't a lot of prospects, so even early in the 20th century the mail or "pen pal" versions came along. 

Think about waiting and waiting, the mailman comes day after day, then finally that long awaited letter comes, it's a romance scam (but that's not what you're going to think).
It's not instant ... but think about the greater impact that would have.  

These types of scams show up right away in chat rooms and bulletin boards with the early home computers when people were dialing up with 8 bit Commodore 64s, Amigas & Apple II computers. (well over a decade before everybody gets internet access). 

None of this has anything to do with Nigerians BTW, that's a misnomer because the Nigerian Prince Letter became so well known but the Nigerian Prince scam was not a romance scam (that would have limited the potential number of respondents).
It was basically "my money is tied up - send me thousands to help me and I'll send you hundreds of thousands when it's all freed up".

just my 2 cents that aint worth a damn, but I feel both episodes of this video NEEDS to go public, the sooner the better! however, I foresee the main problem with that being simply the length. nowadays its like everyone wants the fancy home-made gourmet supper made from scratch with that unbeatable taste, but doesnt wanna wait more than a couple seconds for the microwave to warm it up.
in 1962, John Wayne made a movie, "THE LONGEST DAY" that re-enacted D-Day, 3 hours long, great movie, but it was a flop at the box office due to its length, mainly. now-a-days, people are use to and seem to prefer short (forgettable) 10+ episodes VS a movie and ya cant just cut this up into 5 minute episodes!
unfortunately, shit like this happens probably near daily and it's important to get the word out so maybe a family sees this and recognizes it happening in their family before it's too late! but as I said, people surfing through YouTube are more interested in their quick 2 minute fixes than watching a 90 minute show.

I don't want to suggest that I am some kind of expert, but back in 2010 I had the good fortune to become personal friends with the owner of one of the premiere tactical training facilities in America. He's YOUNG, but he's been "training" since grade school. I PROMISE you this is not his first nor his last; he's learning every second. Being expertly trained, and carrying your defensive handgun cannot protect you from the "Super Predators" of today. In a FUNNY way you could call it "Revenge of the Nerds." If you're old enough to remember the early days of seat belts in cars then you remember the conglomeration of shit that various manufacturers came up with. You can actually hear it in his voice, but the scammer also sounds like he is being coached. What is the scammer's connection to Bill Brockbrader? I mention this because the scammer has likely successfully done this before, with emphasis on the word "successfully," and he is most certainly a fan/student of a serial killer and serial rapist. This girl's father is a model of what a "Good Dad" does every time. The scammer likely did a bunch of evidence destruction and checked himself into a psych hospital in hopes of shaking the bloodhounds loose of his trail, but he will never be able to shake the hounds loose, and in the darkness, a patient's father will be waiting, and waiting... as... will... 1000... other... fathers...

When he said he was "on disability" most people would think federal Social Security Disability which requires a doctor to certify that you have a serious medical condition, not likely to work in one year etc. 

He may have meant that he was "medically retired" from the Navy, which would have been a better cover story but still brings up the question of how he could be medically qualified to try out for a policy academy.  

This wasn't his first rodeo as a con man & scammer but it may have been as a SEAL impersonator.

It's possible for people to be very clever at age 27 but I agree it's likely he's in with a group. It could be people he's in contact with physically, a perverse group on the "dark web" showing each other how clever they are by sharing their little tricks ... who knows at this point. 

He would teach her how to get in as much debt as possible, then he has the money, the debt becomes bad debt, he gets the insurance benefits when she's gone, that would almost certainly have been the plan.  

He's supporting himself doing this, he's done it before and will continue.
Possibly not every scam is like this, there would probably be some "send money so we can be together" romance or lonely hearts club scams, what ever he thinks will work with them as he sizes up the victim. 

He was no doubt trying to hit a home run here, he would have the money as the debt becomes bad debt and he gets the insurance payout.
