Six months ago, a guy I served with on a deployment asked me (through facebook) to write a letter describing how a machine gun fell on his head during a movement. I told him I remembered the incident, but that he wasn't wearing his kevlar, he was fucking around, the 240 fell and struck him in the head. It was his fault. He wanted a letter so he could push through a head injury appeal with the VA to increase his disability rating.
I said I'd write the letter, and I did. I wrote the truth and he didn't like it. Didn't use it, I'm sure. He also said I was probably one of those "lame ass" 100% disabled vets. I had to correct him, of course. I have 30%, and I could get more, if I wanted. But I can walk, talk, AND chew bubblegum at the same time. I can work, I can hike...hell, I snowboard. Why would I ask the VA to pay me more???

This video reminded me of my experience with someone similar, and I was stewing over it for a while. Glad I could put it into words. Feels good lol.

I cracked my noggin pretty good in 2003. Was pulling rear security in our 113 and our driver slammed on the brakes to avoid hitting some dumb ass Iraqi who wasn't paying attention to us hauling ass down the road.
Got lifted off my feet flew about 6 feet and cracked my head/neck (under the k-pot) on the lip of the troop compartment. Stayed conscious but saw stars and was real weak on my feet.
Couldn't eat or drink anything without throwing up and slept about 20 hours a day for the next week or so. Pretty much only got off the cot to use the toilet. I was begging for an IV at one point but the medic said I was too dehydrated. I should've just stuck myself.
It sucked. Fortunately my leadership knew I was squared away and went out of their way to give me time to recover and the guys stepped up to cover my guard duty and fire missions.
Had some nosebleeds but I'm pretty sure that was because of all that damned sand lol.
Enough story time from me. I want to hear more about this crow Don adopted.
