54 yrs ago I was riding on a FBM submarine crossing the Atlantic UNARMED on our way to a shipyard for a major overhaul. During our crossing from Rota to Charleston we had an escort running circles around us for protection. That ship was the USS Scorpion. We were getting close to charleston when we got the news. This could have been the reason the Scorpion was pointed towards Spain when she was found. Quietly called by her crew as the USS Scrapiron. She had a very quick overhaul and a punch list of over 100 items that still needed fixed. One guy actually non-volled to get off because he thought she was not fit to go to sea. I'll go to my grave thinking she went down running interference for us. May she rest in peace. With the Pueblo, the Walker spy ring, the K129 the USS Swordfish and her very shallow depth restriction of 300 ft anything to cause her to ramp up could have killed her. some day we'll find out but I believe the Navy in it's hurry to get her out to sea is the thing that put her on the bottom. this video pretty much covers the time line and accumulation of events.

I never raised ducks. I did raise chickens, geese, turkeys and Guinea hens though. The latter being the absolute noisiest yard birds, ever. All excellent at keeping ticks away if you let em roam. But I'd always get mine from Agway or Blue Seal (maybe being a SEAL you'd get a discount?) to avoid the terminal effects of shipping live birds. Then keeping the fox, coyotes, hawks, dogs and coons away. The struggle is real, but now HAIL ?? That shit is bird trouble of some biblical fucking proportions SC.

Daughter had a full body scan and all is good they got it all with the excision, and it did not spread. She goes in every six months for two years, and then once a year after that. Hello, so my grill started spitting fire last weekend. The grill has a 5 yr warranty on the burners, called the company and the CS number was not in service. Tina was at Costco on Tuesday and Traeger had a rep there who was doing a week long roadshow. He was selling a unit Costco didn’t carry in the store. Well tonight we went back, Costco’ giving full credit for my grill and I negotiated the purchase of the display. Thing is we can’t pick it up until Sunday night when he is done. Anyway Sunday I’ll be the proud owner of a Traeger Silverton 810.

Talking about people from your past. I was standing forward topside watch on a drydocked FBM submarine during the mid watch, when a guy standing along the drydock starts yelling my name. He started down the gangway when I asked for his ID.The name rang a bell.He wound up being a guy I grew up with but hadn't seen in 10 yrs. He was just walking by to look at the big submarine in the dock next to his ship when he saw me. I was standing the watch for a guy who's wife came to Bremerton for a weekend visit. I owed him a favor,even though I had long since stopped standing topside watches. Neither of us could figure out how he recognized me at 2 in the morning bundled up like an Eskimo, but he did. We got together and rehashed old times the night after. Sometimes 2 stars just come together by some wierd circumstance. He got transferred to another ship 3 days later.

The reason they do that when shipping is there aren't enough direct flights, think of all the possible "location A" and location "B" choices.

The US post office and UPS (like UPS 3 day) had more complicated systems. FedEx was apparently the 1st one to figure it out for fast service.
Everything went to Memphis and out to a regional location overnight.
San Diego to LA went to Memphis then back overnight to LA. There are just too many origins and destinations to do it any other way.

If you use another carrier they may have contracts with other carriers and more hubs to choose from but believe it or not they found the most efficient way to get your package there, miles and hops don't matter and F* the little duckies 🤣
