I know how you love my adventures, got a lift to the big town, half way old mates says im sick but its not covid. I tried to get out at 110 but the door wouldnt open. Went to shops, every bastard coughing, a woman and a kid in the bottle shop with masks on, coughing their guts out, fucking kid taking it off, touching every fucking thing. Now I am dying. I have heard this about other birds but I would be sure it varies by species, that's what they do, they fledge when they're still little and helpless.
That's why people are told not to "rescue" them. They are supposed to do that rather than stay in the nest by instinct of whatever species it is. 

The parents continue to care for them They are vulnerable to predators inside and outside the nest and the ones that natural selection wants to survive will survive 

 Jay probably got chased by something when he fledged and ended up in the shoe because it sort of looks like a nest. Whatever was chasing Jay didn't instinctively want to kill him, maybe it was a catbird, maybe a cat did find him near the house and ploped him in the shoe if it's not a bird-killing cat.
