If you want some stories regarding Naval Aviators google.... LCDR John Waldron or LCDR Lem Massey. There you will find a real hero. I was merely privileged to stand on the backs of giants and be on the fringe of warriors who made the eagles look tame.
Gentlefolks of this forum.... a toast. To Mister Waldron and Massey and their comrades of VT6 and VT-8. May their their memory never be forgotten..... ever.

Waveoff. salute to you sir. fighter pilots are the cream of the crop in the military. the one percenters. remember my dad was a check pilot, not a pilot. GREATEST RESPECT to you for flying the famous Phantom. F4J/S. they say the best pilots are naval aviators. they are highly sought after in the commercial world. one guy who landed on carriers said a night landing on a carrier is like standing at the edge of your living room, turning off the lights, closing your eyes, jumping and hitting a postage stamp with your nose. "call the ball! call the ball! roger ball!" the phantoms are big, two-seater monstrosities that are very agile for their size. and they left that famous trail of black smoke wherever they went. the Phantom is the last U.S. fighter to reach ace status in the 20th century. all of us would be honored if you told us some flying stories. like what it feels like to hit afterburners. boooom! the Phantom. the worlds largest distributor of MIG parts.

Looking for some info people. Does anyone know anything about the USS Harold C Thomas. My Dad was on this ship somewhere between 1943 and 1947. I don't know the exact dates. He never talked about his Navy days. I know the ship was a destroyer escort.

IG continued: After we get our gear settled in on base, the team splits up and we go are respective ways based on our specialty. I did any thing to do with Air Traffic Control equipment, and I specialized in maintenance management. I inspected most of the compliance with directives at the Comm Squadron HQ with another enlisted guy and the Team Chief of our team who was a Lt. Col. We were treated extremely well. They kissed our asses and anyone who ever went through an IG inspection knows it. Almost sickening at times. The ATC Ops inspector was a captain that at one time was enlisted. What'd know? His old boss, a Senior Master Sergeant, was the Tower Chief. This particular Senior actually tried to block the Captain from becoming an officer a few years back when he was his crew chief and the Captain was much younger. This was the first time they had seen each other. It was cordial but you could tell these two guys didn't like each other. I know why. This Senior though he was God's gift to the Air Force. His shit didn't stink and he flat out told the IG during the in brief he was shooting for an Outstanding rating from the IG Team. All Units and sections get a rating. These rating can make the difference between getting promotions and they can also be a career ender. Pee Pee pad patrol. Break.
