I was in Helsinki in 1975, liberty from the USS Leahy, on our way back from Leningrad. I know it sounds like another BS story, hell sometimes I wonder. The Finnish were the second most congenial and just plain wonderful folks I met anywhere. Russians in Leningrad get top billing. In Helsinki we had open liberty and did some tours.( A Boatswains mate taught me the ropes of liberty. Told me ship tours were enlightening, though he didnt use those words..) We were guests in some sort of military base or R&R facility, probly not far from base. I remember cold beer, a blazing sauna and the biggest indoor pool id seen since boot. Long story short, I had much the same experience as you did Master Chief, sans the fall. ( I did think it would take a fall from the space station to injure a SEAL)...Wonderful folks.and Leningrad, well thats a story with way too many words for the moment.
