The new generation of Seabees, have changed after 911, they are more combative and yes some have been killed in action, I lost two Chief friends and young troop in my command. Yes we do construction , but a lot of that from 2001-2012 was in combat or during combat operations, most of that was support SOF out in the Battlefield. Convoys were a big thing as surge happen there were not enough Infantry units to support all the Combat Logistic convoys, so in came us and Army MP units to support this mission. There was one time were they had one unit fielded 10 convoy teams during the Hight of the surge that is 350 members of a 486 man Battalion (Think about that) and yes they took contact. .
