Ratko Mladić, the convicted war criminal known as the “Butcher of Bosnia”, has died in The Hague aged 84.

The former Bosnian Serb commander was one of the main architects of ethnic cleansing during the Bosnian War.

He was convicted of genocide over atrocities including the 1995 Srebrenica massacre, where at least 8,000 Muslim men and boys were killed.

Mladić was arrested in 2011 after 16 years on the run and sentenced to life behind bars in 2017.
