Born in Port Augusta in 1922, Mr Merrill served his nation with immense courage as a tail gunner in the Royal Air Force’s 218 Squadron during World War II, completing 36 operational missions - six more than the standard tour of duty.

Awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for “skill and fortitude in operations against the enemy”, Mr Merrill’s service placed him among the pinnacle of the thousands of Australians whose bravery helped secure the freedoms we enjoy today.

At just 19 years of age, Mr Merrill enlisted to serve on Anzac Day in 1942 and completed his training two years later.

He went on to play a role in some of the most significant operations of the war, including the deception efforts supporting the D-Day landings.

His actions are testament to his remarkable courage and character.

On one mission, Mr Merrill removed by hand live incendiary bombs that had fallen from above into his Lancaster bomber, saving the aircraft and his fellow crew members from an explosion.

Mr Merrill was also awarded the 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, War Medal 1939-1945, Australian Service Medal 1939-1945 and the Légion d’Honneur by the French Government in 2015.

He returned to Australia in 1945, working in Port Augusta with Commonwealth Railways and Tanunda with Orlando Wines, before retiring in Adelaide in 1982.

This afternoon Tina was out with her daughter, this is straight line wind damage about 3 blocks from us. We had a section of fence damaged, the son in law put the pieces back together. Tina had 6 flower pots blown off the deck rail. They had it cleaned up before I left the home office. No pics …… lol prayers to all affected today and tonight 🙏

By the way, I looked up Cornbread Salad recipes and made it with some of my own changes to the recipes I found. I added bacon, the grease, used some chipotle ranch and chopped up some jalapenos to add to my bowl. Kidney beans, cheese, black beans, green onions, Tomatoes and a pan of corn bread. I can't wait to see Diane's recipe!

When I am on my death bed, I want Don at my bedside telling me stories. He has one of those voices and his demeanor just causes me to get lost in story. He can just read me Green Eggs and Ham and I would drift off peacefully. Or I could be suffering and Nurse Don would come in, "shut up, I gotta jam this O2 hose up your port and starboard nostrils... hold still... I'm busy, got a lot of things going on at the farm. Don't have time for you you big puss.". Off I go to meet St'Peter with Don's blessing (and bc he was bored)

If "my life is tied to my computer" you need one.
Plug the UPS into the wall then plug the computer and router into the UPS.
