Today,79 years ago,a uncle I never met,died in a place called Normandy.Let us never forget.

We were on a pipline job that ran thru the Gary steel mills on the southern shore of lake Michigan. It was early winter and the wind and snow made it hard to see as temps dropped into the wind chill misery zone. Boss shows up tellin me to run my excavator down the line bout 2 clicks where a side boom sits that threw a track . As im paddling my 400 komotsu down line i finally see what looks like the side boom but visibility is almost zero with the blowing snow. finally i see four men in that cold ass blowing snow trying to pry the track back on that D6, one of them is my brother, a welder. Pipeline crews are like the military or a family, when shit goes bad all the different union members fight the good fight as one. Anyway, that brother just retired after 40 yrs of hard work in some of the worst conditions possible, and he has all his fingers and toes. My older brother lost all his toes on his right foot when a valve was dropped. What is most notable is this brother who retired GAVE his welding truck and tools to his helper that he had been teaching to weld. Yes the truck has lots of miles but all the gear on it is worth a big chunk of money. A good man, a generous man now sleeps in and later in the day heads down to his shop to work on his corvette and motorcycle. God is generous.
