I put an ad in on Craigslist, under 'FREE' for the Sleep Number mattress I paid $3200 for about four years ago. Within an hour I had 22 replies. I didn't expect my address to be made public in the ad; but it was. People are coming to my damn door! I had already promised it to the first caller. I've deleted the ad. I should have sold the darn thing! BTW, after one night on the $1200 memory foam mattress, my back feels pretty darned good!

Wanted to pop in and update y'all. They say that what doesn't kill you makes your stronger; I believed that until Thursday. Part of my fear, in the midst of the fires and chaos, was that any negative or potentially sub-par result for the kids and I would open the door for their dad to dispute custody...and that eventuality came. I did the best I could given the circumstances and I thought a reasonable person would see that I was doing the best I could. My best was not good enough- no half-measures, or something. In the eyes of an emergency hearing, all the judge saw was a semi-homeless, unemployed for now, mother of two and two kids who hadn't been in school for over a month (despite the fact that NO CHILD IN THE COUNTY had school in December). I respect the courts and I understand why the decision that was made was made - and that I'll have a chance to argue the case in March, but I still feel like my heart has been ripped out of my chest. My son was pretty crushed and now...I don't know what my life means without being mom. These fires were devastating...but the collateral damage is worse. I'm giving myself a few days to mope and then I have to start rebuilding a life. I hope everyone had a great new year.
