Well we dodged a bullet today. The fires were put out very quickly by air attack. Magnificent work from the crews who relocated 5 times today to fight fires. Dark in two hours everyone is standing down. BZ.

Tomorrow is not looking good. The forecast is for 120F and winds of 50 mph. "Catastrophic" Fire conditions have been declared. This is the highest lever of alert we have. Basically if a fire starts and plenty will. they cant be stopped by man or beast and people WILL die. Life in the Bush cant beat it. For me this means the power will go off for sure. I fill the pool with 500 gallons of water as a back up to protect the house and monitor weather Radar and the two way radios and go out and look at the Sky every half an hour or so to see if there is any smoke showing. We are all on tank or bore water here so when the power goes off the pumps dont work so its down to throwing buckets of water if need be. The district is full of wheat ready to harvest so tinder dry. Dry Lightning strikes are the worry as well as the fire bugs. Then on Sat we will get rain for 2 days and a temp of 60F. Madness.
This is the standard set up. A pumper tanker. a tanker and a Farm Fire Unit. All manned by volunteers, its all we got. 20,000 liters in the tanker, 1500 in the pumper tanker and 500 in the slip on on the ute. Every farm has one of these slip on tanks and often more than one. They run along the flanks of the fire squirting water out the window. It is surprisingly effective on flat ground but like an ash tray on a motorbike when its hilly.

Had the same problem giving blood in boot camp. While they were dicking around trying to get the rest of my pint, the guy behind me gave his and got a $25 savings bond for being the umpteen millionth donor. Also had an 80+ older lady volunteer at the sub school tell me if she couldn't get my blood out without allot of trouble she would just cut my throat and turn me upside down,

Had the same problem giving blood in boot camp. While they were dicking around trying to get the rest of my pint, the guy behind me gave his and got a $25 savings bond for being the umpteen millionth donor. Also had an 80+ older lady volunteer at the sub school tell me if she couldn't get my blood out without allot of trouble she would just cut my throat and turn me upside down,

Great video D&D, thanks for the updates. Glad you guys are going to get away for a nice vacation. I'm sure Mike is gonna make sure everything is tight and squared away while you're gone. Have a great vaction, you really deserve it. That goose call looks more like a boat anchor, good luck lugging that thing around.
