My Father Richard Peek may he rest in peace. Is the only male in the last 4 generations of my family that did not serve in the Army or Navy. Being that he was 6'11" tall he played basketball in college and professionally for the Dallas Chapperells in the 1st year of the ABA. Because he settled in the Dallas area he ended up being a Dallas fireman. 34 years as a firefighter. 1st 11 years he was a paramedic. The last 23 he was a driver engineer. It bothered him he never served in the military. Looking back now as a veteran corner paratrooper. 34 years on the Dallas Fire Department is A TON more than most do for there country. I for one am proud and consider his service right along with the rest of us veterans.
