As a civilian I am even astonished at the level of cluelessness the American public are infected with where this type of thing is concerned. ZERO concept for the WHAT and WHY, and only a completely ignorant posture of: "NO, WE don't need this." I remember a man SCREAMING at our Assistant Chief once: "Are you STUPID??? Cutting a hole in my roof and breaking windows?? Are you here to save my home or to destroy it?" The mother's position is simple: "My son is not a SEAL, he is dead; THEREFORE something is WRONG with this program." Anyone that has had anything like real tactical training will agree that you can do everything right, and still lose; still end up with an undesirable outcome. The program has been turning out America's most elite warriors since WWII, but NOW we see its flawed because this young man is dead? Was his desire to become a SEAL so great that he engaged in activity that led to his death? Yeah, THAT is what happened. He so wanted it that he took performance enhancers and concealed things he should have made known. That is NOT a reflection on the training, its an example of how sometimes people try out for things they are not going to complete. Professionals hold themselves accountable. If his own life meant less to him than being a SEAL, he wasn't going to graduate anyway. If his own desire to wear that Trident meant more to him than following the established rules of BUDS training, again, he wasn't going to graduate regardless. This IS a tragedy, and this mother is devastated, and looking for someone to blame. Her boy was hard-working, dedicated, intelligent, and had a good character, so if he DIED doing this, then THIS must be the problem, because to her, HE was PERFECT. Yep, I get it. To me my kids couldn't be better either. SHE will NEVER stop blaming everyone EXCEPT the one person that could have prevented this; I just hope the Navy realizes that if an apprentice blacksmith breaks the safety rules, and gets badly burned, reducing the heat in the furnace is NOT the solution, it will just result in us turning out substandard swords.

Prayers appreciated for my sweet Bonnie--heart attack 12 yrs ago (two stents), severe emphysema, lost her eyesight 5 yrs ago, facing upper/lower GI for possible ulcer (hospitalized twice in last 2 months with severe stomach pain), needs MRI for possible rotator cuff problem, just finished 3 weeks of radiation treatment for lung cancer.

Just saw the first fawn of the year in my back yard--had a flashback to when I shot my first deer--stayed in the country for a few days getting drunk with my hunting buddies--finally got home--wife was pissed and my daughters were crying because I shot bamby's daddy

Ok , so what are they going to do at airborne school ..have people on the DZ to catch every trooper….more people die in training more than combat right now . Combat training is there for a reason. The guy was taking a non approved enhancer and a cardiac defect. That poor Captain , what BS….blaming him , and ABC will be getting a call from this infantryman. Airborne , Air Assault , jungle school , severe dehydration, feet problems , jungle rot , shin splints….combat first aid course. Your body hurts in places you never knew you had..everything was inflamed. 22 weeks. There was nothing allowed except chow from the chow hall , his mother sent him the enhancement powder….I could have had limbs hanging off and would have never asked for a medic. And I was no SEAL , but trained my ass off….that report is such BS…that Captain did nothing wrong, and he is taking blame where there shouldn’t be any…

Thank you for telling us the story, as a Camp Lejeune Marine, I know exactly how the Navy covers its ass and blames you for their mistakes. Not only has my health been destroyed, but my life since I got out has also been hell. The Navy now admits that the poisoned water caused behavior problems and cause major health problems. When I try to deal with the Navy they tell me, "Yeah it causes a lot of problems you are asking for help for, but your problems weren't caused by the water. I understand that man's desire to be the best and complete what he started, sometimes we can't just stop trying, no matter the cost. I never gave up, but I didn't die trying, although I'm a walking dead man now, I'm proud to have earned my title. "United State Marine". Semper Fi my brothers. Thanks go to Don and Ms. Carol for all these years of dealing with my whining and helping me find my feet again. Don is a true leader of men and a voice of reason.

Senior calls it like he sees it. Kyle definitely had some responsibility in his own death. I'm sorry he died, and my heart goes out to his family. If he felt he needed PEDs and was just going to ignore what his body was telling him, maybe he should of realized that being a SEAL wasn't in his future. How can you be proud of getting an A on an exam if you cheated to get that A. Only the best of the best go on to become a SEAL. If you're not mentally and physically tough enough you shouldn't be there. You're only putting yourself and your team mates at risk. Again I'm sorry Kyle died, but to point figers and accuse people of murder doesn't do anything to help anyone. I really hope the NAVY doesn't change the BUDS training in any way. Ok , so what are they going to do at airborne school ..have people on the DZ to catch every trooper….more people die in training more than combat right now . Combat training is there for a reason. The guy was taking a non approved enhancer and a cardiac defect. That poor Captain , what BS….blaming him , and ABC will be getting a call from this infantryman. Airborne , Air Assault , jungle school , severe dehydration, feet problems , jungle rot , shin splints….combat first aid course.
Your body hurts in places you never knew you had..everything was inflamed. 22 weeks. There was nothing allowed except chow from the chow hall , his mother sent him the enhancement powder….I could have had limbs hanging off and would have never asked for a medic. And I was no SEAL , but trained my ass off….that report is such BS…that Captain did nothing wrong, and he is taking blame where there shouldn’t be any…

Thank you for telling us the story, as a Camp Lejeune Marine, I know exactly how the Navy covers its ass and blames you for their mistakes. Not only has my health been destroyed, but my life since I got out has also been hell.
The Navy now admits that the poisoned water caused behavior problems and cause major health problems. When I try to deal with the Navy they tell me, "Yeah it causes a lot of problems you are asking for help for, but your problems weren't caused by the water.
I understand that man's desire to be the best and complete what he started, sometimes we can't just stop trying, no matter the cost. I never gave up, but I didn't die trying, although I'm a walking dead man now, I'm proud to have earned my title. "United State Marine".

Senior calls it like he sees it. Kyle definitely had some responsibility in his own death. I'm sorry he died, and my heart goes out to his family. If he felt he needed PEDs and was just going to ignore what his body was telling him, maybe he should of realized that being a SEAL wasn't in his future. How can you be proud of getting an A on an exam if you cheated to get that A. Only the best of the best go on to become a SEAL. If you're not mentally and physically tough enough you shouldn't be there. You're only putting yourself and your team mates at risk. Again I'm sorry Kyle died, but to point figers and accuse people of murder doesn't do anything to help anyone. I really hope the NAVY doesn't change the BUDS training in any way. Like Senior said, it would be an insult for all the ones who came before, who were tough enough to complete that training without cheating, finger pointing, or making excuses for poor performance and poor decisions.
