Just like to remember all those who served in WWII, as we honor the 80th anniversary of D-Day. Much thanks and gratitude for their service and sacrifice.

Sad story here in Canada. He just wanted to be able to go back one more time, to honor all his brothers he served with. RIP -Anti-Aircraft Gunner Bill Cameron...🙏

Bill Cameron was looking forward to this week for a long time. The Second World War veteran was planning to be part of Canada's delegation heading to Normandy, France, to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day on June 6. Last Friday, his daughters Cheryl Powell and Donna Roy helped him get ready and the three had lunch together. After months of preparation, including getting medical clearance, everything was set for a Saturday morning flight from Vancouver. Bill Cameron was looking forward to this week for a long time. "We just couldn't believe it," Roy said in an interview. "His bag was totally packed. We were ready to pick him up." Powell said the staff at the care home where he lived had planned a special sendoff, knowing how excited he was for the trip. The last few days have been surreal, she said. "He went for the 70th (anniversary), he was there for the 75th, and he so wanted to go to the 80th, knowing that it was his last time to stand on Juno Beach to just honour those other vets," Roy said. Cameron's death leaves the Canadian delegation with just 13 veterans, between the ages of 99 and 104. It seems likely that this will be the last major anniversary event to involve the men who witnessed D-Day. June 6, 1944, marked the beginning of the bloody 11-week Battle of Normandy and the start of the Allied liberation of France. Almost 160,000 troops landed on the beaches of Normandy that day, including around 14,000 Canadians. Cameron was a gunner on board HMCS Kingston, which helped protect American troops landing at Omaha Beach. The landing was devastating: 4,414 Allied troops were killed on D-Day and more than 5,000 were wounded. Bill Cameron was looking forward to this week for a long time. During the Battle of Normandy, 73,000 Allied forces were killed and 153,000 wounded. The battle — and especially Allied bombings of French villages and cities — killed around 20,000 French civilians. The exact German casualties aren't known, but historians estimate between 4,000 and 9,000 men were killed, wounded or missing during the D-Day invasion alone. About 22,000 German soldiers are among the many buried around Normandy. "He really felt that there should be more acknowledgment and education so that we don't ever forget," Powell said. Cameron's grandson Craig Powell and his wife, Rachel Soares, will take his place at the Canadian ceremony on Thursday. His daughters are planning to watch from afar in Surrey, B.C. "It'll be hard," Powell said. "It won't be easy, but we'll definitely do it to honour Dad."

Good night every one and good morning Cardinal Chuck.

Here is a letter written by a WWII B-17 Flying Fortress navigator Jack Lundberg a few weeks before D-Day, to his family. The letter arrived several weeks after D-Day:

2nd Lt Jack Lundberg

May 19

Dear Mom, Pop and family,

Now that I am actually here I see that the chances of my returning to all of you are quite slim, therefore I want to write this letter now while I am yet able.

I want you to know how much I love each of you. You mean everything to me and it is the realisation of your love that gives me the courage to continue. Mom and Pop - we have caused you innumerable hardships and sacrifices - sacrifices which you both made readily and gladly that we might get more from life.

I have always determined to show my appreciation to you by enabling you both to have more of the pleasures of life - but this war has prevented my doing so for the past three years. If you receive this letter I shall be unable to fulfil my desires, for I have requested that this letter be forwarded only in the event I do not return.

You have had many times more your share of illness and deaths in the family - still you have continued to exemplify what true parents should. I am sorry to add to your grief - but at all times realise that my thoughts are of you constantly and that I feel that in some small way I am helping to bring this wasteful war to a conclusion.

We of the United States have something to fight for - never more fully have I realised that. There just is no other country with comparable wealth, advancement or standard of living. The USA is worth a sacrifice!

Remember always that I love you each most fervently and I am proud of you. Consider, Mary, my wife, as having taken my place in the family circle and watch over each other.

Love to my family
Jack

· Lundberg was killed in action two-and-a-half weeks after D-day, aged 25.

Today the killer took the stand

'I am innocent of murder,' he said. 'I am innocent (of manslaughter too). I haven't killed anyone.'

Dressed neatly in a suit and dark-rimmed spectacles, the former pilot spoke in a cool and calm manner as he took the jury through the bloody details of what police allege was cold blooded murder.

The jury heard Lynn claimed the couple died after Mr Hill stole his shotgun and the pair engaged in a deadly struggle for control.

'I don't know if he intended to shoot me or not, probably not,' Lynn told the jury. 'I think he was just trying to keep the shotgun for himself and scare me off.'

The jury heard Lynn had been sitting near his campfire by the river when he saw Mr Hill take his shotgun and load the magazine.

The doors of Lynn's Nissan Patrol had been left wide open to 'liberate all the music' from his car stereo, which in the pilot's own words was done in a 'childish effort' to annoy Mr Hill after a previous run-in with him.

Lynn claimed Mr Hill accidentally shot Ms Clay through the head as he attempted to wrestle the shotgun away from him.

Pressed upon the bullbar of Mr Hill's Landcruiser, Lynn claimed Mr Hill pulled the trigger, blasting off the side mirror and hitting Ms Clay directly in the head.

Mr Hill died moments later after falling on his own knife during another struggle, Lynn claimed.
Standing before the jury, and about 100 other members of the public who crammed into the courtroom, Lynn painted himself as a caring a respectful airline captain who would go to the effort to help cleaning crews tidy his aircraft after landing.
The scene was horrendous,' Lynn said.

'There was blood splatter on the hitching rails and the tray base of the Toyota Landcruiser. There was some on the inside of the canopy.

'I wiped all of that off ... the solar panels ... they had blood and other material on them and over the camp furniture.

'Some of those pieces were covered in a lot of tissue and blood. There was a very large pool of blood on the ground in between the Landcruiser and the tent where Carol Clay was.'

Lynn is in the process of being cross-examined by the prosecution Crown prosecutor Daniel Porceddu, who closed the prosecution case on Wednesday, before Lynn began giving his version of events.

The trial continues.

Jaybird likes talking while eating. I had many parrots while stationed in Guam, and living over 3 decades there.
I had 3 macaws a blue and gold(favorite), and greenwing and scarlett.
Also a moluccan cockatoo.
I kept them in a room with their cage door open all the time, never closed and never, ever clipped their flight feathers on their wings.

Something to think about. Tomorrow morning will mark 80 yrs since D-Day. Tonight while you lay there trying to sleep, think what all those young men were trying to keep from thinking about. On or about daylight they would jump from planes, swim ashore, climb into landing craft, and a hundred other ways to invade the most fortified ground known to modern man. Now try to get some sleep before you go off and make history. Contrary to what some may think lately, Freedom is NOT FREE Someone has to fight for it.

Not much over the last week to report except this. He is still claiming he had nothing to do with murder.

In November that year, Lynn said he torched the bodies using skills he had learnt while working abroad.

'The human body's 90 per cent water, that was all gone, and the fire was largely self-sustaining, which I was quite shocked by,' he said.

'I've been to India and Nepal many, many times, I've been to the temples there, they have the crematoriums, and I've seen them cremating people right in front of me.'

Unlike those crematoriums, which Lynn claimed used two-tonne of wood, he only had to use about 20kg and two litres of kerosene to incinerate his alleged victims.

'I've no reason to lie to you now, it's just a - it was a self-sustaining fire that burnt from that top down, and at the end of it there was - I had to poke around a little bit towards the end to put it all together,' Lynn said.

'And I did add a few sticks along the way, but there was - there was nothing at the end. Nothing bigger than 20 millimetres long.'

Detectives would not put tracking devices in Lynn's vehicle until weeks later.

The trial continues.

The blue jay (Cyanocitta cristata) is a passerine bird in the family Corvidae, native to eastern North America. It lives in most of the eastern and central United States; some eastern populations may be migratory. Resident populations are also in Newfoundland, Canada; breeding populations are found across southern Canada. It breeds in both deciduous and coniferous forests, and is common in residential areas. Its coloration is predominantly blue, with a white chest and underparts, and a blue crest; it has a black, U-shaped collar around its neck and a black border behind the crest. Males and females are similar in size and plumage, and plumage does not vary throughout the year. Four subspecies have been recognized.

The blue jay feeds mainly on seeds and nuts, such as acorns, which it may hide to eat later;[2] soft fruits; arthropods; and occasionally small vertebrates. It typically gleans food from trees, shrubs, and the ground, and sometimes hawks insects from the air. Blue jays can be very aggressive to other birds; they sometimes raid nests and have even been found to have decapitated other birds.[3]

It builds an open cup nest in the branches of a tree; both sexes participate. The clutch may be two to seven eggs, which are blueish or light brown with darker brown spots. Young are altricial, and are brooded by the female for 8–12 days after hatching. They may stay with their parents for one to two months.

The name jay derives from the bird's noisy, garrulous nature and has been applied to other birds of the same family, which are also mostly gregarious.[4] Jays are also called jaybird
